“Never let your guard down in Manila. Ever.”

I know you’ve heard enough of those scary encounters in Manila but I think you ought to know more. My blockmate, who is a dormer around UST, just had this recent experience which he shared to us via Facebook. This is probably one of the most pathetic stories I’ve heard of. I mean, these guys would do everything just for money! Ugh. Just read.

Guys! Never let your guard down when in Manila! Ever. Even if UST feels like a second home to us, especially for the dormers, it only makes it a bigger challenge to keep one’s guard up.

May nangyari kasi. It’s like this. There was this man who says he’s from a barangay kagawad. He even has an ID. He asked if I saw a group of young adults running sa may P. Noval because galing lng daw sila sa rape. Naka-porma daw ung suot. Sabi nya ni-rape daw nila yung pinsan niya. Siguro nahulog daw nung tumatakbo sila. Yung laman dalawang ice pick tsaka isang baril.

Papunta akong birthday nun eh, so akala nila may kinalaman ako sa nangyari dahil sa suot kong damit. Pero I explained that I’m only boarding and I’m not from Manila, but they took me to their barangay (dun sa may laonglaan) for questioning.

So kinuha yung cellphone at ATM ko, tapos binigay dun sa isang lalake.

Sorry for disturbing your studying, pero I just felt like it had to be shared. :(

Yeah. I was unlucky enough to had one of these encounters too and it was even worse because I had a gun pointed at me.

That was around November, I guess. My dorm mate/blockmate and I just had our dinner in the nearest eatery and we were on our way to the laundry shop to get my uniforms. It was raining so there wasn’t a lot of people outside. After we got out of the laundry shop, an old man ran hurriedly to us and cornered my blockmate. He was pointing a gun at her and I didn’t know what to do. All the old man said were, “Huwag kang sisigaw” and “Akin na ‘yung wallet at cellphone niyo.” After my blockmate gave the man her cellphone, he pointed his gun at me, which seemed fake by the way. Good thing I left my cellphone at the dorm and my wallet only had forty pesos inside so I didn’t even think twice about giving it to him. He shouted, “Cellphone mo!” I told him I didn’t have one so he proceeded on inspecting my pockets. Then he ran away.

The guys from the laundry shop and our dormitory tried to run after him but they failed. And that was it.

With that being said, keep safe y’all.
