The things you hope for the most are the things that destroy you in the end.
Currently reading this book, and I’m not gonna wait until I finish it to tell you people that it’s really really good! I mean, I literally laugh out loud every five minutes or so (I may or may not be exaggerating), especially at gay Will Grayson’s narration! And how could I not mention the world’s largest gayest person, Tiny Cooper? I love him.
I never enjoyed a book this much, and that’s saying a lot. Props to John Green and David Levithan for this wonderful, wonderful book. Read it and be entertained!
(This was a graduation gift for my sister by the way, from someone I personally don’t know, but I’d like to thank her anyway. Ha. I’m such a leech.)
Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin by Bob Ong
I wasn’t as eager to read Bob Ong’s books as before, given that the last book he released, Ang Mga Kaibigan Ni Mama Susan, was a bit disappointing (for me, okay!). But I bought this one anyway and gave it the benefit of the doubt. Well, I could say it’s a tad better than the one I’ve mentioned; he made a lot of strong points and I agree with most of them. I reckon it wasn’t that funny though.
Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami
I liked Norwegian Wood better that this one but it’s good enough to be on my favorites shelf. I can’t wait to get my hands on his other books!
(I make shitty book reviews. Deal with it.)
One Day
by David Nicholls
It took me a while to get into this novel, I almost gave up on it actually, but once I got to the fifth chapter or something, it became an easy read. There’s nothing else to say except that it’s really wonderful! I watched the movie adaptation right after and I could say that Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess fit the roles of Em and Dex perfectly! But all in all, I’d say the movie was okay. Anyway, this is definitely a must-read.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time
by Mark Haddon
That was last year I guess when I saw this novel included in 1001 Books You Must Before You Die while I was randomly checking out books in NBS. I do that quite a lot by the way. Anyway, I’ve read the synopsis and I thought it was really interesting, so ever since then, I’ve always wanted to read it. I really liked it and I’m sure you would too!
Recent book purchases:
The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time by Mark Haddon
Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami
Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin by Bob Ong
Killing Time in a Warm Place by Jose Y. Dalisay, Jr.
Dekada ‘70 by Lualhati Bautista
I didn’t know what else to do with the remaining money I got from my birthday so I decided to splurge on them books. I finally have Catcher in the Rye, oh God! I’ve been wanting to read this since it was always mentioned in the books I’ve read. I was looking for The Great Gatsby too but to my disappointment, they won’t be having it until next month.
I bought Dekada ‘70 and Killing Time in a Warm Place since we were assigned to write book reviews for additional grade in Philippine Government Constitution and God knows how much I need that. Ha! Well, not really.
I swear I’ll try to finish One Day this week despite all the school work. I have a lot of stuff to read!
Books I’ve read / 2011
Looking For Alaska by John Green
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Diary of A Wimpy Kid (1-4) by Jeff Kinney
Ang Mga Kaibigan Ni Mama Susan by Bob Ong
The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
What a shame. I’ve only read eleven books this year. I failed my 2011 Reading Challenge and it’s one reminder of how unproductive this year has been. The books on the top row are really good though. All four of them plus The Little Prince have made their way to my favorites!
Reading more books would definitely be my New Year’s resolution.
